CORE 4 – financial support for dairy farmers

Funding and assistance to help dairy farmers keep nutrient and sediment on-farm is available through the CORE 4 program.

Keeping nutrients and sediment on-farm contributes to productivity, turns run-off back into an asset and helps improve the health of local waterways.

Am I eligible?

If you’re a dairy farmer in the Macalister Irrigation Area (MIA) or immediate surrounds, including the towns of Maffra, Heyfield, Sale and Stratford, you’re probably eligible, see the map below.

Who will work with you on CORE 4

Ag-Challenge Consulting will work directly with farmers, supporting you in identifying phosphorus savings and helping you to develop CORE 4 action plans.

The CORE 4 Principles

Rebalance nutrient applications across the farm.

Recover and reuse nutrients and effluent

Retain sediment and nutrients on-farm

Restore the health of local wetlands, waterways and the Gippsland Lakes.

To be eligible

To be eligible for up to $15,000 per project you or your delegate MUST attend one of the following information sessions

What can be funded?

  • Upgrades to dairy effluent systems including improved capture, increased storage or larger distribution area.
  • Upgrades to primary laneways or feedpads that will retain more nutrient on farm.
  • Fencing of wet areas to exclude stock.
  • Creation of riparian buffer zones.
  • Other activities that keep nutrient and sediment on farm.
