Session 1: Business Planning

Plan for profit – identification and definition of business planning including:

  • strategic planning
  • tactical planning
  • operational planning

Session 2: Financial literacy

  • dollars in – dollars out
  • discussion of the Malcolm/Krause diagram which simply breaks down farm gross income, variable costs, overhead costs, interest, tax and depreciation

Session 3: Risk management

  • definition of risk management
  • quantifying an individual’s attitude to risk
  • how to identify risk
  • risk assessment using a heat map
  • how to mitigate risk
  • how to manage risk

Profit drivers – Dicey business

  • definition of profit drivers
  • know what your most profitable enterprise is, specific to district averages
  • understand the effect of yield, cost reduction, price and debt on profit
