Event Details

Did you know lichens are a type of fungus, that they occur in just about any habitat, play an important role in the environment and are great bioindicators? Would you would like to learn more about these cryptic organisms; how they function and how to recognise some of the more common species?  This session will provide an introduction to lichens and develop some basic identification skills. Participants will have hands on opportunities to get up close and personal with species on site as well as samples provided.

Speaker: Simone Louwhoff has studied lichens for more than 20 years and currently her main focus is with community and field naturalist groups, leading field trips and workshops and carrying out lichen surveys including providing identifications. She works part time in the Faculty of Science at Federation University, Gippsland.

What to bring: Participants are advised to carry a water bottle and dress for walking in the bush. Light refreshments will be provided.

Booking: is necessary as places are very limited & to enable a wet weather contingency. Contact Carmen Lee 0407512490 or carmenl@wgcma.vic.gov.au for more details.

This event is proudly supported by the Gippsland Plains Conservation Management Network.
