The Fish Creek Community Garden Inc. present Khory Hancock – the Environmental Cowboy.

Khory is going to talk about Climate Change Adaptation and Biochar for Soil Health, the topics include:

  • Biochar – products, benefits and challenges (including climate change solutions)
  • Climate adaptation – crop yield decreases, water challenges, extreme weather event resilience, drought tolerance and irrigation
  • Erosion and sediment control – mitigation strategies to poor soil structures (high sodium levels etc)
  • Nutrient and carbon levels in soil – biochar benefits
  • Soil dispersion field tests – classes to soil structure, field experiments using soil from local area and classification sheets with mitigation strategies
  • Weed management
  • Health/nutrition benefits – Khory’s research assistant Katrina Lynch will be doing this presentation.

There will also be mules, flowers and Biodynamic compost.

  • Get your hands dirty and learn how to make a Biodynamic compost
  • Watch working mules ploughing a garden plot

Children’s activities include: cuddle a mini horse, make paper pats and plant a sunflower seed, make flower circlets, bring along your kites, trikes and balls.

Food and drinks will be available to purchase or bring your own picnic basket and blanket.
