Perry River and Providence Ponds Forum

More than 40 people packed the Munro Hall in May to discuss issues facing the Perry River and Providence Ponds as part of the Perry River Our Catchments Our Communities Project.

Partnership and Engagement Team Leader, Belinda Brennan, said she was impressed with the level of interest in the project.

“The idea for this meeting was to get some feedback about the places that are important to local residents and what environmental issues they think need tackling.

“We were able to get some great feedback on natural resource management (NRM) and other issues of local interest.

“High priority issues included the spread of weeds, impact of pest and feral animals, poor water quality in some areas and lack of native vegetation cover.”

Feedback from the meeting will be included in the strategic directions statement for the project which will be circulated in August.

“We’ll be holding another community forum in September to update on the activities and works that will be funded over the next three years,” continued Belinda.

“We’re also keen to hear from landholders interested in participating in on ground works.

“Of course, participation is voluntary and we understand some people will choose not to be involved, but we are keen to get in touch with those who want to be part of this project.”
